The latter pkudud guilty, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, and ii. similar sentencv. , was imposed on Frederick (!ro.-s. Morse was reniandeil for the report of th» probation officer. The prosecution in the Uii!»my caso broke down very unexpectedly. " The first witness for the Crown produced a copy of a certificate of accused's former marriage in 1E95. to which Mr Tunes (coun.-ol for the defence) objected, pointing cut th.it tlw accused Daly was referred to a.i "Richard" and "Uobort" Daly in tho snrno certificate. His Honor, after ferutinisin» tho certificate, wmarkfld that it was a litraiißo blumler, and lie commented upon the gross carelessness of eome oflicial, which lead to the breakdown of the. prosecution. Tho Crown Prosecutor intimated that ho could go no further in the caw. and his Honor directed the jury to acquit aecueod, which was done, Dalv being discharged. A verdict of " Not jruilty" was returned in tho caeo of Christopher Ryan on a ehnrire of stealing a- pold wateh and £7 at Halcombo on April 1. Patrick charsed willi .obtaining £5 from T. C.
