After Mr Bauer, the diamond merchant, was murdered. Mr Cutler, a jeweller, of Litt-Ie Collins street, infornu'd tho police that a man had called at his shop ami inquired for Mr Hauor's address a. lew days before The description corresponded with that of a well-known Victorian criminal. Suspicion points to tlie belief that the fugitive has gone to Sydney. This idea fits in with the story that a man was seen 1o leave tlie building in a violent hurry a few minutes after 5.
