(Received June 11, at 9.22 p.m.) Mr Haldane (Secretary for War), in the course of the army debate in Hie House of Commons, said lie appreciated the desire generally expressed in the Hoii£e to retain the national or special descriptions of the corps, but declined an amendment making them statutory. Ho caid their retention would doubtless be possible, in many cases.
Mr Balfour suggested that the Militia of Knghml and Scotland should bo allowed, like the Irish, to supply drafts and to servo as units.
Mr Hakiane, amid cheers, said ho recog. nieed the importance of the suggestion, and promised to give it earnest consideration,
