NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL AT KENSINGTON
OPENING SOCIAL. The completion and opening of the new St. Andrew's Sunday School at Kensington was celebrated las!, evening by the holding of a social in tho Sunday' School Hall. There was a large gathering, and the Rev. ])r Waddell presided. Associated with bim were the Revs. J.'ChULolm and A. Don.
Tho new school is commodious and up to date. It has nine rooms, including a library, two Bible-class rooms, nn infant room, four class rooms, and a room for general use. There is also u largo and well-lighted hall 30ft by 2Sft. The cost of the building was XGOO, and about £500 of that amount has been raised by salo of work ar.d donations. Tho contractors lor Hid building were Messrs Henderson and CiDrrie, and tho architect Mi James Clark.
Dr AVaddell, in extending to tho?o present a wolcomo to Hid opening of the new Sunday School, said it was an old saying that charily should begin at home. If it had begun at home in this instance the probability was that they would not have had the building they now had. because they were more in need of a ne\> building for the Sunday school at St. Andrew's Churcii itwli. However, it was considered that a Sunday school was needed in Kensington, and the present building was accordingly constructed. Parents whose children did not attend the Sunday school should take to heart what they owed to their children. The State had provided schools for children, but through them , the intellectual side only was reached. The moral and relisious sido was left to the Church. What w«s wanted was a training of tie child spiritually. Without that all other training went for nothing. The Church was awakening to its responsibilities to the child. The homo that did not look after its children would break up. the State that did not look after its children would disappear, and the Church that did not (look after its children was not long for this "* Tho Sunday school was where the
Church could look- after its children. They wero extremely indebted to (hose who had helpwl In put this building where it w, All that was how needed was that the parents in tlio district should rally round and make life of the buildings.
The Kev. Mr Chisholm congratulated St. Andrew's Church, its minister, officebearers, nwmhrrs and adherents on the openill;; of such a splendid building for Sunday school work. The speaker impressed upon those present the necessity for having Sunday sohool teachers who couid icneh tho hearts and the consciences of tho children. It was not lor the Sunday »:hool teacher to reach the intellect of a" child. The speaker also referred in eulogistic terms to tho genuine work done by Dr Waddell. Hβ was the whole heart of tho lifo ami cnerpy so manifested by St. Andrew's congregation. Tho Rev. Mr Don said on looking at the building from the outside he had regarded it as a small structure, but was agreeably surprised 011 entering it to find how large and well-appointed it really was. He trusted that tho residents would do thoiv utmost to have, the very best use made of the school,
Other speakers wero llr A. M'Kenzie, the first superintendent nf the school, but now resigned; also Jfr Loiihs, successor to Mr M'Kcnzio.
