SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

A meeting of the Albany Street School 'Committee was held last evening, and whs attended by Messrs J. 11. Wilkinson (in the chair), J. O'Shea, A. Brooke, J. Abernethy, H. -Mitchell, W. Aitken, J. F. Nugent, itml A. Dempster, while an apolcgy lor uonatteudanco was received truni Mr W. Jt. Smith, who wrote thanking the committee (or ths consideration extended to liiui while he was chairman, and also stating that this was the first occasion 011 whicli he had been absent during the past (our and a-half years, 'lhe committee resolved to express its appreciation of the excellent manner in which .Mr Smith hid conducted the business of tho committee during the past 12 months. The Head Master reported that the number of pupils on the roll was G76, and tho average attendance GJ7. The Free Kindergarten Association wrote asking (or tho uso of the school gymnasium for teaching purposes, and Messrs Wilkinson. Dempster, and the head master were appointed a subcommittee to confer, with power to act, with tlie Kindergarten Committee. Tho question of term holidays was remitted by the Schools Coiumitiees' Association, and it was decidtd to approve of a week's term holidays in September of each year. It was decided to remit the following resolution to the Schools Committees' Association: —

" That in estimating the average attendance the ' excepted' half-days b? the half days 011 which the attendance for the who'.o school is less than two-thirds of the roll number of the schools, instead of cue-half, as at present." The secretary was instructed to ivrito to tho Education Board drawing its attention to the urgent need of a retiring room and lavatory for the jeniale teachers. The following sub-commit tees were appointed:—Works—Messrs Wilkinson, Smith, Dempster, and Abernothy; StationeryMessrs Aitken and Dempster, Gymnasium— Messrs (VShca, Nugent. Brooke, and Mitchell ; Visiting (for the month)— Messrs Abernethy and Mitchell.

The Monthly meeting of the Cavershaui School Committee was held last evening, and was attended by .Messrs Austin, Brown, Barnett, Kenuard, Rutherford, Stevenson, Wright, and Thorn, while an apology was received from Mr it. H. Todd, who was unable to be present owing to indisposition. Mr Todd was re-elected chairman for tho ensuing year, and Mr Thorn was re-elected c'.erk and treasurer. The following committees were appointedWorks—Messrs Brown, Stevenson, Wright, and Thorn; Gymnasium—Messrs Austin, Baniett, Keunard, and Rutherford l ; delegates to tho Schools Committees' Association—Messrs Barnett, Kenuard, aud Tcdd. Messrs Kennard and Wright were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month. A committee was set up to arrange (or a lantern lecture being given to tho children on the subject of Kmpire Day. The Head Master reported that tho liumbei of pupils 011 the roll was 573, and the average attendance '"1.7 por cent. The average for Standards I and II was exceptionally good, being 99 per cent. It was reported that Miss fioss had commenced hei duties as fifth assistant.
