HIS MOVEMENTS AND PLANS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, March 23. Sir Joseph Ward had a busy week, receiving ijiiitc 'a shoal of callers daily at tho (V.cil Hotel. Beyond paying one official visit to the Prime Minister and one to Lord Elgin at tho Colonial Office, his inost important engagement, this week lias been attending the Navigation Conference. On Wednesday the New Zealand J'rimo Minister, with other colonial delegates, was the guest of the President of the lioaril of Trade at tho House o[ Commons. Lady Ward and Miss Ward have been paying a round of visits, and it is probable that all three will spend the Easter holidays) in Warwickshire, returning to London in timo for Sir Joseph to he present at, tho next meeting of the Navigation Conference.

On Tuesday evening a dinner was given at the House of Jxirds by the Hon. W. P. D. Smith, to the chess teams representing the House of Commons and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge which met earlier in the day. The toast of "Imperial Chess" was proposed by the chairman, and Sir Joseph Ward, who replied, said that as a result of telegrams exchanged with Xw Zealand, ho issued a challenge, on behalf of New Zealand, to play telegraphic chess matches lieiweeu the House of Commons and tho Parliament of NewZealand, and between tho University of New Zealand and tho Universities of Great Britain.

As president of the New Zealand Association in Loudon, the High Commissioner for the colony lias issued invitations to an "At Home" at, the Westminster Palace Hotel ou Wednesday evening, April 10, to meet, the Prime Minister of New Zealand and Lady Ward. Mrs W. Pemher Koeves will lie the hostess on the occasion.
