) ME AND MRS HARRISON ENTEIt- , TAINED. A very enjoyable social was given by the . residents of Wnkari to Mr and Mis Harrison S and family on the retirement of Mr Harrison from the. headniastevship of tlio Wakari School and on their loaving tho district. , Tho school flag was flying lrom the gym- ' nasiura, and the ball was nicely decorated with flow-Ts, groenory, and flags for the occasion. Tho hall wiie filled, and Mr Bunting (chairman of tho School Committee.) occupied the clwvir. In his remarks, Mr _ Bunting spoke of the general regret at the enforced retirement of Mr Harrison, and ). trusted that with rest his throat would soon be well again, and if lie wished to enter Uio profession again they would be dolighted to have, him back again in Wakari. He also spoke "oi the efficiency ot tho school under j Mr Harrison. Speeches were also made by Mr Passmoro and the Rev. Messrs Christio and Sutherland eulogising Mr and Mrs Harrison, and expressing regret at their leaving, but pleasure at tho ftwt that they wore not going far away, and they would occasionally see them. Hγ Harrison, in replying, thanked Die speakers for tho pleasant references made regarding his family and himself. He spoke, ot- tho lmppy four years they had spent in too district nnd their sorrow at leaving. Ho also thanked iheni for the many kindnesses - in and his family lad received at their 3 hands. During the evening the proceedings were enlivened with piano solos by Miss 0. Dall t 9 and Miss E. Pnssmore; songs by Misses b- Sullivan, Dall, E. Mouat, and JS. Dixon; and rt- ft recitation by Mr M'Domdd (Harcnsbourne), in and gramaplioue selections. Supper followed, and the hall was then cleared for dancing. On Tuesday evening a presentation was made to Mr and Mrs Harrison by the school = children in the school. Masters 'David Xoss and Ranald Martin in the name of the school _ children, presented Mr Harrison with a „ leather bwss-monnlcd dressing cafe, suitably a ' inscribed. Tho boys, in making tho presentation, spoke- in high terms of their master, and said they were very sorry to lese him. Misses XtUie Dixon and Dorothy Kent then >t. presented Mrs Harrison with a silver-mounted ,1| card case and purse as a small token of tho ,„ appreciation of her many kindnesses to tho n Vakari School children. Mr Harrison suitably replied, giving tho - children good advice, and foiling them to keep "J up tho reputation of the school and t» show "I the same, respect to his successor as they ea had always shown him.
