ALHAMBRA THEATRE.

Popular interest in tho programme tendered by Pullers' Entertainers at tho Alhamljra Theatre continues unabated, and there was again a largo audicnoo last evening. Tho scrnsr.tional shavpshooting of Lieutenant Macdonald, and tho singing of Miss Lorraine Tansley and Mr A. L. Cropp ware accorded hearty applause, and tho other contributing artists wero also most cordially received. A compkto change of programme is announced for tlias ovening.

BASKET SOCIAL.

For some time past the membors of the St. Kilda Borough Council and a low residents of the borough Have been engaged in the raising of sufficient funds for the erection of a band rotunda in the district. The Ocean Beach Domain Board, some timo buck, granted a site alongside the entrance to tho beach opposito Onslow House, and all that now remains is to raise the money for tho rotunda itself. About £00 haa already teen contributed in tho way of contributions and money collections, and aa tho total cost of a presentaSCe structure will be about £!flo, the committeo which has the matter in hand has devised other means of securing tho necessary Money. Tli? first of a series of ba?iiot socials organised by tho committee was hold in the St. Kilda Town Hall last evening, and was very largely attended, there being upwards of 90 eouplcs present The evening was devoted to song and dunce, social intercourse, etc., and generally was a decided success. Messrs Scuness Brothers supplied tho music. During the. evening the Mayor of St. Kilda. (Mi* Burk), Mr HaJicoclt (chairman ot the Domain Board), and t!r Gore spoke briefly in connection with tho movement and its prcgre3s. Next month tile committee proposes to hold an evening festival in Culling Park. The City Counoil has consented to light the grounds by four electric arc lamps, and three or four hands will supply music, whilo there will bo other attractions in tho shape of side fliw-. etc. Tho committee and its secretary (Mr 11. W, Allen) are working energetically, and success is assured. It is confidently expected that the rotunda, will be in position by next summer.

CONCERT AT MORNINGTON. The second concert in aid of the funds for a boys' brass band for the city was hold last evening in St. Mary's Hall. Momington. and W. 13 liberally patronised. Miss Newman Potts (the directress of tho Dunedin School of Music) had had tho arranging of the ccuocrt, and had carried out her duties most elnoiently. The Momington Brass Band gave its services, and, besides playing outside beforo tho concert commenced, opened tho programme .vith a cipitally played selection. Five ladies and three gentlemen—students of tho Dur.edin School of Music—sang as a concerted item "Yo banks and braes," and tho ladies also supplied a chorus to "Funiculi, funiculi." the solo part being sung by Miss E. H. Mills, who also contributed another vocal solo. A pianoforte piece was well played by Miss Brcnda Stock, and a humorous recitation given by Mr G. Lumley. The second part of the programme consisted of a fairy play, ontitled "Little Rosebud." This was performed by 30 little girls, under tho direction ot Hiss Edith Leech, all tho children being pupils of tho Momington Public School. Tho costumes worn were pretty and pioturesque, and the many songs and dances incidental to the play were nicely given. A feature was a fairy dance, especially arrangod by Mrs M'Gregor, who had trained tho children in the dancing generally. The principals in the play wcro Miss Maisie Cuun (Fairy Queen). Miss Irene Rutherford (Witch), .Misses Amy Clarke and Edith Wallace (Girls of the Wood), Miss Co!c/in Wood (Puck), Miss Charlotte Kearns (King Pippin). Miss Eva Wallace (Blue Boll), and Misses Evelyn Myers and Whilcmina Shearer. SCOTCH CONCERT. Tho Momington Presbyterian Church Hall was crowded Inst, evening, when a Scotch concert was given by tho Presbytorian Church choir, assisted by Mi 11. Stokes's band, tho Highland Pipe Band, and others. Mr Stokes's band played " Caledonia," as an overture, and the choir contributed threo items during tho evening exceedingly well. These were " There was a lad," " My love is liko a red, red rose,' and "Auld lang sync,' with which the concert closed. Mr Stuart Thomson sang " A hundred pipers," Mrs Wakefiold Holmes "Charlie is my darling," Mr W. H. Macke.n7.io " Mary," Mis J. Todd " Jessie's dream," Mr J. M. Mis.i Ethel Carter danced a Highland fling, Pipe-major J. M'Callum and Sergeant J. Macfio played a bagpipe duet. Miss Elsie J. Ford a pianoforte solo, and Mass Isa Poolo gave ns a recitation " The obstructive liat."

Tbo concert w»9 a very enjoyable one, and was given wider the direction of Mr j. K. Hartley.

SOCIAIi EXTERTAINMENT. The FirE : t of a series of monthly socials was held in the Rattray StTeet Oddfellows' Ilall by Dr Commins's congregation last evening, and wn9 very largely attended. The entertainment comprised a series of limelight views of typical points-of interest in various parts of th-j world, in>tersper?ed by musical and vocal items, whilst -llie- younger members of the audienco wore, highly amused by sonic diverting slides which were thrown upon tho screen from timo to time. Occasional intervals were devoted to social conversation amongst members, who woro unanimous in declaring tho social to be a pronounoed success.

FAREWELL CONCERT TO HISS AMY MURPHY. An energetic committee of over 40 ladies is putting ill good work in disposiug of tickets, and it is anticipated that tho holding capacity of the theatre will be taxed to its utiuoE't. Tho programme is a popular one, whieh should appeal to all theatregoers. Tho box plan is now open at tho Dresden, wheix> eents may bo booked without extra oliajgo.
