POWER FROM WAIPORI.
THE TAIERI COUNCIL'S ELECTRIC COMMITTEE'S REPORT.
The following report will be submitted to the adjourned meeting of the Taieri County Council, to be held on Friday next:-—
The Elcctric Committee hw conferred with a. committee of the City Corporation regarding the points in dispute batweon tho two councils with relation to the Wnipcri agreement. After mucli deliberation on interim agreement was drafted, which embodies tho best arrangement wo have been ablo to UTrivo at without having resource to law to obtain a supply of electrical energy within tho limits of tile county. We wish tho council to (lis. linctly understand, that it is in no way committed to the proposals submitted. The only matter for which we are responsible is that proceedings for compelling tho corporation to refrain from transmitting power were stayed for si period of 21 days. The agreement provides; (1) Within 12 calendar months the City Corporation shut: establish a sub-station at Currio'B fanuj equip same with transformer, etc., and construct nocessary lines to convey electrical energy for present and future use to Wingatui, to llosgiel, and to Outram. (21 Within the same period the corporation shall construct necessary lines for convoying electrical energy from Half-way Bush through tha Kaikorai Valley to the Brighton road. (3) The .power to bo available tor either power or lighting purposes. (4) The Taieri County Council to waive all objections to transmission line as constructed, objections to telephone lines, and to give consent to wayleaves required for branch lines. The corporation is to indemnify the Taieri County against all claims and demands for any accident <x damago caused by lines. The committee feels that- the acceptance or rejection of agreement is a matter affecting the welfare of the county as a whole, and (hut the responsibility of deciding the issue must lie with the whole council.
