Ttie certificate: read:-'•This is to certify that ii qualified to teach Nature-study am elementary agriculture in Auckland public schools, including practical work in rehoo gardens, plant experiments, budding., pruning, grafting, ljlant disoasr-s, liotauv. insects, soil analysis, dairying, weathei astronomy, and Nature study." Mr Petrie, the Donrd'6 chief in specior. reported that he considered th< certificates far too pretentions for the class of qualification n teacher could frnt from three months' tuition, and signing it placed the chairman in a ridiculous position. After discussion, on the chairman's motion, it was decided to alter the certificate to show ilirvt. teachers had undergone a course of training and had passed an examination in the subjects mentioned.
