INDUSTRIAL CO-OPERATION.
Slit,—As your contributor "C. G\," in his articic on "Industrial Co-operation," refers to the " historic instance of the Rochdale weavers," who were the pioneers of tho co-operative movement, it may perhaps bo of interest to your readers to know of the progress of the socoity formed by (hem in 1844—viz., the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers' Society. The following figures, shoving the progress of the society in dccennial years, are very interesting: —
The total trade done bv tho socicty amount* to 1 lie sum of £12,555,556, on which a profit of £1,931,816 lias been made. They have 76 shops, a bakery, tobacco factory, grocery warehouse, coal depot, and engage 336 employees to cope with their trade in all kinds of foc<l, drapery and clothing of all descriptions, boots and shoe?, furniture in every detail, coals, hardware, patent mcdicincs, watches, olocks, jewellery, pianos, etc. In addition, there is a circulating library, with 16.251 volumes, ami reference library, with 2821 good useful books, all of which aro free to n.smbers anil their children.
