CLASSIFICATION OF SCHOOL TEACHERS.
(Per Unhid Press Association,) AUCKLAND,_ May 2. In connection with the classification :ot school teachers for .the payment of salaries the secretary to the Board of Education states that thoso teachers who failed to pass at the examinations in January last had got their licenses renewed, but in the caso of tliro« unfortunate teachers who passed and qualified for full certificates the department, could not be induced to issue the certificates, and consequently, • while tho3o teachers' remained unclassified, there vas a 10 per cent, reduction in.salary. It was ono of tho " ghastliest" things ho had ever known. The board had had notice of the issue of certificates cominp 18 .months after tho time at which the ccrtiOcatea were dated. Had thoso teachers failed thev vouid havo had their licenses renewed, and they would have had their salaries, hut' they were, now penalised for passing. The board has decided to remonstrate with tho departmont on the matter.
