Probably more than one firm or company would* be prepared to compete for such a service." TIMARU, May 2. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones opened the new band room for tho Battalion Band this afternoon. It i s a substantial building, with concrete walls. A'olnntecr officers and a large number of people were present. Mr Hall-Jones will address his constituents to-morrow evening. He said he would deal at length with the finances of tho past year, which will 3 how n surplus (after making provision for a. substantial contribution to (he Public Works Fund and other charges) of over half a million. The Land Bill will also be touched on, and a reply made to tho speech delivered by the Leader of the Opposition at New Plymouth. A general reference will be made to the progress of the larger public works in hand. Mr Hall-Jones does not intend to indicate the introduction of any legislation beyond that already announced which will bo (with the Land Bill and the tariff) a pretty big bill of fare to start with,
