HELPING HAND MISSION.

,—-C- ' ■- On Sunday evening tu» Helping Hand Mission celebrated the opening of its now hall in) Bath street. Sister Olive was. as usual, in charge, and Sir A. E. Stevens spoke earnestly to an attentive audience. Tho building was lilled to overflowing, a large nuinbor listening outside to tho bright, hearty Binginof which has in the past characterised these meetings. Tho mission has vacated its old premises in Hanover street, as the landlord purposes shortly to demolish these and erect nn up-to-dato building in their place. Tho new premises (lately occupied, by Salmon Bros.) consist of a largo halL, downstairs, sv smaller room at tho back suitable for holding small meetings in, and another smA\ room detached, and aro especially suitable for tho work proposed to bo carried on by this mission. Tho main hall, which is ,1 well lighted, well ventilated room capabjo of accommodating some 150 people, is to be tised on Sundays for holding tho usual meetings in—viz., Sunday School, Young Men's Bible Class, and, evening meeting, and on week nights for the different classes (spiritual, physical, and technical), Miss Gilinour lias kindly consented to take- charge of a girls' gymnastic class, t° be held every Wednesday night, and Mr G, S, Bslfoirr has consented to do tho

samo with a similar young, men's class,' to bs hold on Thursday night. On Monday and Saturday nighls it is proposed* that-tbo rooms shall bo open from 7 to 9.30 p.m. for parlour gamos and reading, etc. It 19 also proposed to have, a circulating library in connection with tho mission. Sister Olive, who is in charge, of tho work, and is so well known fo tho Dnnedin public, wauld bo most huppy to rcceivo any books 'and'game's suitable for this portion of tho work. Tho general control of tho mission is vested in a board o£ management consisting of Kov. C. 11. Laws, Sister Olive, Mcssts S. C. Phillips, W. Bull, V. IT..Bolting. A. E. Stevens, W. Duke, E. Hosovoar, T. it'Lerman, and H. Goodman. Tlio object of the mission, which is essentially a young people's mission, is to rsach tho great crowds of young men and. women who do not attend .and aro not touched by our churches, and to help them spiritually, mentally, and physically. On Tuesday night the opening social was held, when tho main hall was again crowded. Musical items were agreeably rendered by Misses Mayall (2). Gilinour, Sparrow (3), Mrs Lawn, and Messrs •Thomson, Mayall, ant! Fyfo, while Mis 3 I. Poolo and Mr Peterson gavo humorous •recitations. Miss Fawcctt acted as accompanist. At the oloso of a very enjoyable overling supper was handed round.
