LONDON, April 29. kir Penrose Goodchild Julyan is dead. Deceased, who had had an adventurous career, was Crown Agent for the Colonics, 1858-79, and a director of the London and Westminster Bank, • 1879-90. He was in his ninety-first vear.

Deceased retired frdm the head mastership of the Remuora School under the teachers' superannuation scheme about 12 months ago. He took a leading part in tho Education Institute.

: CHRISTCHURCH, April 30. Til the death of Mrs Henderson, wife of -Mr A. Henderson, Cluistchurch has lost one of the highest type of its women citizens. Tho deceased lady was for many years, and up to the time of her last illness, actively connected with almost every charitable organisation in Christclnireh. She was one of the founders of the Children a Aid Society, a member of the Charitable Aid Hoard, of the committee of the lemnle Refuge, and the Samaritan Home Board of Management, and was also ouo of the founders of the Canterbury Women's Institute. In all these capacities Airs Henderson was held iu (he highest esteem for the many lino qualities which she manifested. Zealously devoted to the duties of each position, and with a genuine interest in the institutions she laboured ro imru to servo, she brought great intelligence to the work, and could generally ■be relitxl upon for sound judgment. Tho cause of death was heart failure, occasional premonitions of which the deceased lady had experienced for some few years. The end came with comparative suddenness.
