TRIAL TRIP OF A NEW STEAMER. Tho steamer Largo Law, built on the Tyno to the order of Messrs Law. Leslie, and Co., of London, and which is fixed to sail from 'New York on her maiden voyage on the 20fi)i inst. for Svdney and New Zealand' ports, wae recently taken on her official trial trip. This vessel, which lias been built to the highest class at. Lloyd's, is of tho three-deck typo, with two decks and complete shelter deck laid. Tho propelling machinery, which has been constructed by the North-Eastern Marine Engineering Company (Limited), at their Northumberland engine works, Wallsend-on-Tyne, consists of a 6ot. of their latest typo of triple-expansion engines, having cy!inders_26in, Win, 72in by 48in stroke, steam being supplied by three largo steel boilers fitted with forced drnuglit. On the trial run off Whitlcy tho machinery worked without a. hitch, and a mean speed of over 12 knots was attained, which gave great, satisfaction to all present.

DESTRUCTION OF THE AGENOR. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that word had been received on April 5 that tho Court of Yokohama, which has been bearing* tho case of the scuttling of tho ship Agenor, of Seattle, had liandod down its decision. Albert A. Lewis, and Charles A. Hill had lx?en sentenced to imprisonment for life, a.ml F. 11. Howard acquitted. Appeal had been taken. It war. reported (states the same journal) last July from Yokohama that the ship Agenor, Captain Killnian, had become a total loss of Tokushima. Five months later a despatch from Victoria declared that three Yokohama men were on J-rial there charged with wrecking tho Agenor to obtain 6Q,000i!ol insurance.

A NEW COLLIER,

According to adyioes to hand by the last mail, there was launched en the 16th of February from tho Wallscnd yard of Swan, Hunter, and Wiirhani Richaxtbon (Limited), a steel .screw steamer which has been built to the order of the Westport' Coal. Company (Limited), of New Zealand. The v<'.«el has been designed for carrying coal from Westport to Wangamii, and to carry her cargo on an excepticnr.lly light draught of water in order to negotiate the bar at the latter jjort. The vessel is of the following leading dimensions:—Length over all, 178 ft; beam, extreme,' 29ft lOin; and depth, moulded, lift Bin. The macbinerv has boon constructed at. Colchester, and consists of two sets of compound engines driving twin screws, steam being supplied by two large i-inglo-cnded boilers of 1201b pressure, which are expected to drive her at a speed of 11 knots 011 a loaded trial trip. This is the second vessel that, has been recently built, by Messrs Swan, Hunter, and Wigham Richardson for the same owners. Tho vessel has been built under the supervision ol Oaptain Lobb and Mr William Cairns, the owners' superintendents. She has been named the Regulus.
