ST. KILDA BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held on Tuesday night, the members present being—the Mayor (Mr W. J. Burk), .Crs Vickery, Scanlan, Watson, M'Farlane, Ewing, Cameron, and Gore. CORRESPONDENCE. ' W. Carr wrotu asking that attention be given to the footpath in Grove street, Musselburgh, which was dangerous to people passing at night.—li-eceivcd, and referred to the inspector, with power to act. The Valuer-general requested tho nomination of a person to act on behalf of tho council as a member of tho Assessment Court—Mr Orr Campbell was appointed on the motion of Cr Gore, seconded by Cr Ewing. Tho District Health Officer wrote notifying a fatal infections disease case in Douglas street, and asked that the bedding and other things which had been exposed to infection be thoroughly disinfected.—Referred to the inspector, with power to act. James Stcuhouso wrote asking that a jamp might be placed at the intersection of Morcau and Victoria streets, St. Kilda-.—Koferred to the Works Committee. Tho Secretary of the Duuedin Drainage and Sewerage Board forwarded, as a preliminary intimation, copy of a special resolution rela-t-ivo to rates to be levied—9d on sewered, 4Jd on unsevrered, and 2d on imse-worcd property in the outer drainage area.—Received. • Cr Ewing, in ■connection with the letter, pointed out that the council .ought io back up tho complaints of ratepayers relative, to the disgraceful state of the drain on the Anderson's Bay road near the. railway. The Drainage Board had been addressed on the question time after time, but did nothing. It was resolved that the bonrd be written to asking it to clean out the ditch complained of. W. j\ t . Biddell wrote asking tho council tq pipe and fill the ditch on cast side of his section in Park Ward.-Keccived, the work tc be done.

Tlte Works Committee recommended that tenders bo called for asphalting footpath on south sido of Market-street, and that two new lamps be. erected in each ward.—Cr Goro pointed out the unsatisfactory nature of the street tights nt present in use, and it was resolved to write to tho Cnvershani Gas Company for the purpose of getting a better gas supply.—The report was adopted. Tho Finance Committee reported the debit bank balance to be £376 12s 9d, or £523 7s 3d below , the limit. (Last year it was £1322 15s 2d below limit.) Tho special loan account was reported to b 3 in credit £1023 13s 10d, and tho drainage, and sewerage at £12 2s 8d in credit. The Valuer's report for 1007-8 wcro as follows :-Park Ward, £moi (increase £538); Mussolburgli Ward, £W,4lfc (increase iS23). Total valuation, £19,120; total increase, £1361. A T ew houses erected in Park Ward, 23; Musselburgh Ward 33;— total G2.—Received. The return bearing on the amount paid to the St.' Kilda Fire Brigade for the past two years showed that donations had amounted to, £28, and- material provided to the value of m 12s 3d;-total, £62 12s 2d.—Adopted.GEXEHAL. It was resolved thnt the council employees be granted Easter holidays on full pay from Thursday night to the following Tuesday morning.
