THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER.
Thk City Council will be requested, at its meeting tins evening, to relievo Mr W. G. T. Goodman of the duties of oily electrical engineer at an early data to admit of tho assumption 'by liim of tho position, to which ho has just been appointed, of electiic.il engineer to the Municipal Tramways Trust, Adelaide. The prevalent sentiment throughout the community will bo ono of regret at tho approaching severance of the connection Mr Goodman lia.s had for nearly sis years with municipal undertakings in Dunedin, mingled with a feeling of satisfaction that Ml' Goodman's high qualifications as' an electrical engineer hai o been so fully acknowledged by tho Tru ( -t in Adelaide as to secure for him the appointment to a position uliicli is certainly ono of the most important in the field of electrical engineering in tho colonies. That the Trust has been fortunate in its selection of Mr Goodman will also, wo think, bo widely recognised. Mr Goodman may not, during his stay in Dunedin, have succeeded in pleading everybody, lint there is no one who will venture to ,is=ert that the quality of the work which lias been performed under bis direction is other than admirable. The electric tramway service in Dunedin is, in regard alike to the trark and to the equipment, admitted by unprejudiced authorities to be snperioi to nearly eveiyt.hing, if not actually everything, of its kind in Australasia, and we believe Ifc will be found that Mr Goodman will be able to point with as much pride io tho power transmission system, which is now being completed, as to the tramway system as a monument of successful engineering. The duties which he will be called upon to discharge in Adelaide will involve the designing of an exceedingly important enterprise, but it 11 ill not bo doubted by anyone who is acquainted with Mf Goodman's qualifications, a* exemplified in his woik in New Zealand, that he is entirely competent to undertako the onerous responsibilities which ;
will bo imposed upon him, and thai the Adelaido Tramway*! Trust is to bo congratulated upon bavins; secured the fervicßs of an engineer who has placed to his credit such professional accomplishments as arc associated with Mr Goodman's namo in Dnnedm.
