(Rcreivcd March 19, at 9.58 p.m.) v Ono hundred and thirty Australians returned from South' Africa by the steamer Hymetlius to-3ay. f They confirm tho worst that has been reported regarding the prevalent distress. They say that trade in South Africa is absolutely dead, and things aro daily getting worse. Kaffirs and Indians aro getting work that formerly went to whites, thousands o£ wliom are idlo and are leaving South Africa. Many, however, are unable to get away, owing to lack of funds.
