AUCKLAND, March 18. Welcome rains fell over the province to-day. after several days of hot, sultry weather. NEW PLYMOUTH, March 13. Up to 9 o'clock this morning 3.7 in of rain fell in 24 hours, and it is still raining. WANGANUI. March 18. It lias boon raining here hard and continuously since 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, and shows no signs of abatement. Later. Heavy rain is still falling, and there is every indication that it will continue for somo time. NAPIER. March 18. Heavy vain set in' last; niirht. and still continues, with no sign of clearing. WELLINGTON. March 18. Continuous rain at Wellington to-day prevented carqo being wor|cod, and in conseqnencc loading and discharging wero at a standstill. Tho Union Company was compelled to nostpono departures of vessels as follows:—Waikaro, for Auckland, via way ports, till to-morrow at noon; Pnherua, for Westport and Greymouth, till tomorrow at nonn: Mapnurika, for Pieton, Nelson, and Ihn West' Const,' till Wednesday at noon. It is probable also that the Tyser chartered st carnm- John Harxlio will not sail for Lvttellou till Wednesday. The Now Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Turakina, for Lyttelron, with balance of cargo from London, will not leave bore, till Wednesday afternoon, and the same company's s.s. Opawa, to load for London, lias postponed her departure for Auckland till Thursday afternoon. The New Zen hind and African Company's steamer Ayrshire, with balance of_ cargo fi"pn Liverpool, will remain at Wollindon fill Friday, when she will sail for Lytlelton and Diinedin. None of the smaller coastal «l«amors left. Wellington to-day. The Mararoa rot away at_ 8 o'clock this evening for Lyttelion, wjth about 300 passengers. Owing to tho wot weather all outdoor holiday arrancemonls for the day are abandoned, except the tennis match 'Wellington v. Canterbury, which is being plavcd in a drillshed.
