COMING ATTRACTIONS. (Fnosi Odd Special Correspondf-xt.) • CHRISTCHURCH, March 18. Tho Exhibition was again well attended to-day. Mr Wilfred Manning was vocalist at tho concert in the evening, which was well attended, and there was a large, autlienco also at the orchestra! concert in the afternoon. The judging of the home industries exhibit will be completed this week. Thp classes still remaining are drawing, geometry, Native school work, modelling and decorative design. Tho pictures aro in the course of being judged now! The judges' reports in the open class for technical school pupils have been banded in to the committee, and iho awards should bo available early in the week. A sheep-yarding competition in connection with tbc.Christeliurcb Dog Trial Club's trials will be held on the sports ground on Monday next. Among 11 entries are five dcfjs brought over by Mr E. M'Lcod, of Wilga Downs, New South Wales, and the meeting of these with the New Zealand cracks will lend more than ordinary interest to the trials. Mr M'Lcod's dogs" havealso scored heavily at Sydney competitions. At thp Exhibition tho contests will consist in driving sheop through two separate pair of hurdles, one representing a gateway and the other a race, and yarding them. Mr Jacques, Iho Government canning expert, will give a demonstration of fruit preserving on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, after which thorn will be a cessation till after Easter. The demonstrations will then be renewed, and giyen at short intervals till tho doss of the Exhibition. A 7 cry great interest is taken in these practical displays, which often attract a crowd of a. couple of hundred people, many of them armed with nqtebooks. Eighty-nine fire brigades, including one from Corowa, New South Wales, will take part in the competitions on tho sports ground this week.' A commencement will be made to-morrow afternoon, thrcp events taking place at. once. The judges and officials held a meeting to-night, at which final arrangements were made. Four engines will take part in tho illuminated wafer display io be held at the side of Victoria lake to-morrow night. A fair-sized building has been erected qn the sports wounds for flip ''figh(ing-|ho-ihimps" act of Wednesday nighty in which two steam engines, two chemical engines, and a motor chemical will take part. The budding will ho set on fire between the. two se.ls of fireworks, and the engines will go in and quell the flames as in the case of any ordinary conflagration. On Thursday evening there will a second water display, and on Friday night a banquet will be bold in thp main corridor, and the Acting Prime Minister will present the prizes Io the. winners of the competitions. Tho (rial of ehoniical engines will take place on Saturday iporning, and the drawing of flic art union in the evening. A large number of entries have already been received tor the physical development competitions to bo held m Wonderland in conjunction with iho search for buried treasure on Friday, March 22.
