THE ELECTIONS. QUIESTEST IN TEE HISTORY 0? THE STATE. Press Association—By Tclegrapk-CopyrigM. MELBOURNE, slarch 16. Tlio Stale elections were the quietest in the history of the State. They resulted in o triumph for the sitting members. Parties, on the present figures, arc practically as they were. Labour lost the Geelong, liallarat West, and Jika Jib seats, but gained Bendigo East and Eaglehawk. Mr H. 51. Prendergast, (Labour) was returned for North .Melbourne. One of the incidents of the election was the defeat of Mr Judkins (editor of the Review of Reviews) for Brunswick, sfr Anstev (Labour) winning bv a majoriTv of over 700. The approximate figures show the positions to 1m as follows:— 7 .Ministerial 5] Labour or Opposition 14 Total 65 The Labour pm-tv loses Mr W. IT. Oolechin (Geelonij) and Mr 11, ¥~ Heard (Jikji •Ilka). Mr H. Scoil-Bennett, the retii-iii K Labour member for Ballaral; West, did nor, scclc re-election, and tin? Labour nominee lin? been defeated. - slr T. Glass, a prominent Labourite and member of the A.N.A.. lias defeated Mr A. S. Bailee, who during ftio last Parliament went' owr to the Bent party. Mr T. Tunnioliffe, who came fourth in the rectnt Senate election for '.lie Yictorhn State, boinn beaten by a. feliow Labourite for third place, replaces Mr Hay Kirkwood for Ka.gfchawk. Mr Premlergast is leader of the Labour narrv in Victoria-. Mr F. Anstev was the sitting member for Brunswick, and is now wiclclv known as tho author of "sfonopolv and Democracy," an attack on Victorian land monopoly.
