Defendant moved to add several others as co-dofcudanls, alleging that he had acted as'president of the Invercarpill Licensed Victuallers' Association, of which tlm others wore members. Plain-t-ill admitted, through counsel, that others -wero liable, but said that Bastings l.ad bean authorised to engago Messrs Sim and Hosting, at a feo of 100 guineas each, to appear 011 behalf of iho petitionoiv. His lioiior made an order joining as d'-fendantt; L. CI. Hcope, D. Roche, W. lla,:l:'lt, and Moffat aJld Company. The caso will not ho heard this sitting. Argumral. was heard iu Ihe appeal caso '.Southland County v. John Turnbuil (W'aikaia). A demand -had been made 011 tho defendant, tor comity rates based on iho Valuation Department's estimates of ihe land, which showed agricultural and mining .interest, on both of which respondent was rated. The magistrate had held that defendant could not be rated 011 both iinlercsts. Tito decision was reserved.
