THE CONTRACT LABOUR QUESTION. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BRISBANE, February 26. Tlie Government lias arranged with tho Orient >S.S. Company to bring out about 200 immigrants per fortnight, starting in May next. Those with a capital of £50 will receive passages at £5 each; agricultural labourers and tlieir families are brought out free. Cane-growers and farmers applying for labourers will bavo to pay itho Labour Bureau £5 a piece. As this arrangement brings the men within the scope of contract labour, correspondence is passing between tho Government and Mr Deakiu on the point. The latter, in a guarded reply, hoped the meet tho wishes of Queensland. MELBOURNE, February 26. Five Labour members of tho Federal Parliament waited on Mr Deakin and , protested against any ni6re permits being granted for the importation of European labourers l<) Queensland, where there was plenty of while labour now available. Mr Deakin replied that ho would not issuo any more permits till he saw how Mr Kidj ston's immigration echcine progressed.
