MEETING OF CREDITORS.

A meeting of creditors iii the bankrupt estate of Matthew Smith, painter, Ravensbourne, was held in the office of tho Official Assignee yesterday afternoon. Mr T Ji Eoberts (Deputy Official Assignee) presided. Tho debtor's statement showed total liabilities £321 13s lOd, and total assets £256 ss. The assets consisted of £267 book debts (esti- , mated to produce £250) and the balance- (£0 ss) etock in trade. The principal creditors were:-D. M. Fea £38 19s Od.Laidlaw and Gray £30 19s lid, Henry Lyders £G3 12s 3d. Thomson, Bridger, and Co. £28 Is 10d, Commercial Property and Investment Co. £20 12s Gd, Smith and Smith £19 13s Id, Calvcrt and Enigh £19 10s 6d, Omp.nd and Wright £16 2s 6d.

The creditors present or represented at tho meeting wero:—Thomson, Bridger, and Co., Omand and Wright, S. F. Aburn, 11. Lydera, Guthrie, Bowron, Bethune, Laidlaw .and Gray, Barningham and Co., Fogo, I). Bobertson, Ross and Co., and Smith and Smith. Messrs W. E. Brough and L. E. Finch appeared for the debtor, and Mr W. L. Mooro for Thomson, Bridger. ond Co., Laidlaw and Gray, and Omand sm'd Wright. The debtor filed the following as -the causes of insolvency:—ln 190-4 lie felt the pinch of want of money, tho cause being keen competition and having to take jobs at a cheap rate. Small losse3 were made, and, having no capital, he was hampered by payments o{ wages every week. At this period lie did not consider his position serious, and did not do so until tho end of last year. In
