Inveicargill (Greater) 12,507 J7 7 0.5G The total births in the four chief boroughs amounted to 017, as against 552 in December—an ine-ease of 95. The deaths in January wore 290—an increase of 110 on the numb"!- in December. Of tho total deaths males contributed 156 and females 154. Ninety-two of the deaths were those of children under five years of ago, being 31.72 per cent, of the number. Seventy-seven of tliofe children wore under ono year of age. There were 76 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards,
