NEW "DREADNOUGHTS."
Tlio second battleship of tho Dreadnought typo for tho British navy was laid down on December 3at Portsmouth. She rail bo known as tho Bcllerophon. It is reported that sho will bo a little laTger than tho first Dreadnought, and that sho will carry 50-calibro 12in guns, though 110 official information on the subject has been published. Tho third Dreadnought has been laid down at Devonport, and will bo known as tho Temerairo. A fourth vessel will bo built by Messrs Armstrong, Whitworth, and Co. 111 tho meantime it seems to bo tho fact that tho firm of .Sehichau have not yet received the order for ono of tho German Dreadnoughts, Two of those vessels aro to be laid down shortly under the 1906 programme for tho Kaiser's navy, and two under tho 1907 programme later in tho year. Tho now Gorman estimates show that tho size of tho German armoured cruisers has again been considerably increased, sinoc> the cost of each ship has been raised from £1,375,000 to £1,800,000.
