The Bank of England returns show the stock of gold coin and bullion to be £34,089,000; reserve, £26,193,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 50.34. The notes in circulation total £27,639,000; public deposits, £11,860,000; other deposits, £40,171,000; Government securities, £15,454,000; and other securities, £28,606,000. Three months' bills are discounted at 4J per cent. Consols are quoted at £86 17s 6d. The following are the quotations for colonial Government slock, compared with those ruling a previous; —

Wheat: The Russian Government is purchasing at Home and abroad for lie famine districts. Cargoes are quieter, but firmly held, youth Australian January shipments, 50s 9d to 31s; New South Wales, 30s 5d to 30s 9d; Australian, spot, nominally 325. Flour is burdening. Patents—London, 21s 9tl lo 225; Glasgow, 235. The prices asked for shipment are prohibitive. The American visible supply of wheatis 78,710,000 bushels. Copper; Spot, £108; three months, £103. Tin: Spot, £191 ss; three months, £190 ss. J-ead, £19 12s 6d. Pig iron, 55s lOd. Sugar: German, 8s lOd; first marks. 10s 7d. The Bradford wool market is linn. G'rossbretls aro dull, hut merinos are hardening. Common sixties, 25Jd; super., 26jd; forty-sixes, 17|d. Butler: Punish (dull), 112s to 114s; New Zealand (choicest), 100s to 101s ; Australian, 96s to 995; secondary, 86s to 925. Owing lo the rise in the cost of raw materials the prico of soap has advanced. A West Australian loan of a million at 3£ per cent, was about to issue, (lie minimuin of which was fixed at £97.
