He recommended thas in tho first instance £20,000 be borrowed, which would enable at least 40 bouses to be crectcd. The council resolved that with a view to obviating the danger of tho growth of slumps in Auckland, and providing suitable dwellings for 11 section of tho community whose wants were not. supplied in any other way, the schomc brought forward by the mayor ho referred to the Finance Committee for its consideration and report.
