— State lotteries add to the incomes of foreign Governments. In Italy they bring the Government in a sum 'of noariy £2,500,000 a year. In Prussia, tho profits of tho uublio lottery amount to no less than £4,250,000. The Dutoli Roveriiment, gets the njee little sum of £50,000 profit out of its lottery. Portugal makes about £70.000 in this way, and Denmark a profit of £59,000. In Brazil, where the Government does not itself run the lottery, hutcollects a tax on the receipts of private lotteries, tho amount realised is £17,000.
