IXVERCARQILL, January 29. An old empty wooden building at Ijladstone, .owned by Mrs Quinn, was burned early ibis morning. The 1 bouse, which was an old landmark built in 1858. was insured for £450 in tlio Commeroial Union.
'I.TMAUU, January 28. The Gcrnldinc Racing Club's grand stand, together with tho contents, was completely destroyed by lire last night. Incendiarism is suspected. The building was insured for £200,' and the contents for £50, iu the State Fire Insurance Office.
A . five-vomed house situated in lipid road, South Dunedjn, was totally destroyed by lire about 1.30 this niornipg. Tho flames had a very strong hold when tho outbreak was discovered, and it was impossible to save anything in the shape of furniture or oft'ccis, the tenant, Mr Charles Wilkms, having barely time to eseapo with his wife and four children. The house' was owned by Air 0. A. Maxwell. Mr furniture was insured for £125 in tho Northern oflice. The South Dtinedin Fire Brigade turned out very promptly, and did excellent work", though it was somewhat Hampered owing io the fact that a strong wind was blowing at tne time.
