(Ikou Ook Shcul ComgroiutjNT.) EXHIBITS CLASSIFIED FOR JUDGING. ( CHRISVCIIUUCII. January 28. there was a good attendance at the Exhibition again to-day.
-Miss Alice Jennings, ihe winner of the memento for being the millionth person io pass the Exhibition turnstiles, has received a largo number of congratulatory telegrams from all parts of the colony. Tho following telegram was received by her from tho Prime Minister from Auckland: " I congratulate you upon the unique distinction of being the millionth ticketholder to pass through the turnstiles to the Ciirisichui'ch Exhibition, and'llmt this may murk a period of great success in your future is my sincorest wish.''
A novelty has arrived from Home in ihe shape of a consignment of daylight lireworks. Sufficient for three displays was sent out in ihe liimutaka by Messrs I'aiu and Sons, London. The consignors speak very highly of these as forming a novel and interesting .spectacle. The fireworks Will 1)0 shown on ihe spoils ground in due course. The next; evening display of Pain s fireworks will bo given 011 Wednesday nexi.
Ihe. scheme of classification of the exhibits for judging purposes has now been drawn up. Tiie schedule comprises o5 eJiissos. mid many subdivisions, Juilgps will be. appointed, it. is understood, without; further delay, ami will begin work at a very early dale. The leading exhibitors agree iu praising very liighlv the classification of the exhibits, and as it will lw loft to the exhibitors to say under which bending thev desire their displays judged it is pointed out that ihere can be no opportunity for dissatisfaction on this score.
Tho Hon. Mr Millar, at present Minister in charge of the. Exhibition, says that tho diplomas and certificate of Ward aro being prepared by the J'ublio Works Department. Where civil servants can bo found to act a.s judges they will be appointed, and in classes for which no civil servants with the necessary riuaiilicartons are, availablo other qualified men will bo selected to act as judges. Tho Fijians arrived back from the south fo-ilay, and will recommence their performanccs of songs and dances 011 tho sports ground.
Hie Minister of Railways decided that bandsmen in uniform attending tho Exhibition band contest will bo granted Uclicls at holiday excursion rates from I'obrnary 15, available for return until March 15. They will havetg make their own arrangements for sea travelling with the flapping companies concerned. Captain M'Cee. Lieuienant Morton, ami Jlr J. J. Dougall, all of Christchurch, will act as judges of accoutrements, appearance, and inslrumcnts in connection with the quickstep eompetilion at the band contest. Haydn Bcck, a child violinist, oE live years, displayed his precocious ability in the concert hall this afternoon, and Miss Morenop Quinn mid air Courtney ITood g!|VO vocal items. The concert was well attended.
A series of open-air promenade concerts will commence io-morrow night,' when Miss Apiy Murphy'(of Dunedin) will bn among tho vocalists. Other concerts of the series will be given on Thursday and Saturday.
