FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITIONS.
ROSWX BRIGADE. Oh Salnvilay afternoon the Roslyn Fire Brigade held a series of competitions" for gold nicaals, donated by Messrs Grcenshde. knvson, A. J. Park, Kemnitz, and ]). ltoss. Tho following officials were appointed to carry out events:-Judges, Jfr ■]). M'Jlillan (oxmeinlier) and Mr K. C. Haigh; timekeepers— Messrs Cochrane, li'lntyre, and Kemnitz; starter, Mi Godfrey. J«o competitor was entitled to more than one medal. The outstanding feature of tho afternoon's display was the consistent form shown by Fireman R. Koss, who aunexed the thrco principal events in a smart and workmanlike manner. Tho following events wero run off:—Mr Greenslndo's medal—Man to run 10 yards to plus: ship hydrant, couple on first length to hydrant; iix union, couple two more lengths to union, fix branches; coma back and cut out lirst length from union to hydrant (presumed to be disabled), and insert new length. All hose to bo laid out; finish at hydrant. Ton starters. Fireman R. Itoss, 5-Isoc (lscc pen.), 1; Fireman J. White, Ct 2-usec, 2; Fireman J. ICiely, GTsec, 3. Jlr Dawson's Medal.—Man to run 10 yards, ship hydrant, couplo first length to liydrant, fix union, couplo two more lengths to union, fix branches, and finish 5 yards past branches. All hose lo be laid out. Ten starters. Fireman R. Ross 38 4-sseo (lsec pen.), 1; Fireman J. , White, 40 ii-ssee, 2; Fireman A. 11. Sinclair, 42sec, J!. In this event the medal goes to tho second man, Fireman Ross having won the previous event. Mr A. J. Park's Medal.—Man to rim 10 yards to plug, ship hydrant, couplo two lengths to hydrant, run to end of first lengths and couple two more lengths on, fix branches, finish 5 yards past branches; all hose to be laid out. Kmo .starters, fireman B. Boss, Sβ 1.-ssec ttsec. pen.), 1; Fireman A. H. Sinclair, \i 3-osec, 2; Lieut. Beveridge, Msec, 3. Fireman Sinclair receives this prize, Fireman Rosa having previously won a prize. Mr Kcnmitz's Medal.—Man to run 10 yards, pick up hydrant, branch, and 50ft c'tiil of hose; lull ID yards to plug; ship hydrant, run out coil, fix branch, finish o yards pas' branch. Ten starters, fireman J. White, 27 4-ssec, 1; Fireman B. Ross, 28sec (Ibcc. pen.), 2; Fireman W. Sinclair, 30 l-ssec, 3. At the conclusion of tho events, Captain Washer, on behalf of tho brigade, thanked tho ofiicials for thoir attendance and ihe gentlemen mho had so generously donated prizes. DUNEDIN CIH BRIGADE. The Duneain City Fire .Brigade (the prosent holders of tho Challenge and Highpressure Shields) have selected the following lnember-s \a represent it at the Fire Brigades' bo held at Christchurch in March:—Fireman Blanchard, Murray, Mar. shall, Duncan. Olliver, and Conway; One-man Manual Engine—Fireman Blanchard; Coupling Event Uwo men)— Firemen Blanchard and Duncan; Beseuo Eace (two men)— Firemen F.lanchard and Duncan; Manual Engine (thrae men)— Firemen Duncan, Murray, and Blanchatd; Hose and Hydrant (three men)— Firemen Duncan, Murray, and Blanchard. 'i'ho first fivo members will run in tho Fivemen Coil, Five-men Engine, and Five-men Ladder and Hose competitions.
