FINANCIAL POSITION OF THE COLONY. • LARGE INCREAsFIN REVENUE. PUBLIC WORKS. • During the past nine nionthe £550,000 was transferred from revenue, and £748,100 of the local million loan had boon received, and also £182,000, balance of last year's loan, also £124,000 for premiums paid by purohasoK. To this was to be added £251,000, balance of the million loan and a further transfer of £225,000 from revenue wa« avuilable Io make tho ways and means for the March quarter £794,000, of which JlO anticipated £420,000 would be spent, leaving £574,000 to carry on from 31st Alareh till Parliament meets. Bonds and otlicr t reccipts amounted to £1000, and this, with the cash balanoo 011 31st March of £428,000, gave tho Government a total ways and meaiia of £1,921,500 to work upon. Of Mll3 amount £1,004,000 was issued during tlio nine months, leaving on tho 31st Decomber last a cask balance of £317,100.

LOANS. ' fcotwitlustanding the disturbance of the money market, Ihe colony found no difficulty in obtaining all tlio money required, whether for renewal or new loans, without going on (he London market. The outlook for the now year was bright, and with steady revcimo increases a substantial surplus was to bo looked for.

THE EXHIBITION. < lhe Prime Minister javo come particulars of tho financial prospects of the Exhibition. According to tho general manager's forecast, tho expenditure to date had been ±.155.000, of which the Government provided £75,000, and it would take £155.000 to cover all expenses in connection with the Inhibition, assuming it would close on tho date at present intended. The receipts lo date were £28.518, end the estimated total receipts wwo £105,000. leaving the buildings, statuary, etc, to cover tho balance of £55,000. Tho amount of estimated loss was £35,000. The first million people W ould havo ]ias«ed through tho turnstiles by next Saturday, beforo three months of tho Exhibition had passed.
