MR CHAMBERLAIN'S HEALTH. AUSTRALIA AND THE EMPIRE. Press Association—By Telegraph— Copjnght. BRISBANE, Jamiary 27. (Received Jan. 28, at 1.19 a..m.) Sir John Madden, Chief Justice of Victoria, was a, passengers by the Aorangi, which arrived from Vancouver to-day. In the course of tin interview he stated that Mr Ohamberlain was well physically, but his memory was failing, and it was impossible tor him to continue to follow a political life. Sir John found that the olHcials of tho Bank ot England took little interest in Australian finances. They recognised (hat the country had possibilities, but, like many others, they were of .opinion that the Labour party bud liPiby tho throat, and that she could' not survive the ordeal. An impression existed in England that Australia- desired to break away from tlio Empire. This was responsible for the absence from the newspapers of any information relating to Australia, and if it were made manifest that Australia was loyal the press in England would bring Australia's resources before tho people.
