FIRE.
As tlio result of the firo at Mihiwakt on Wednesday evening tho eight-roomed liouso belonging to Mr Thomas Bootten, farmer, was entirely destroyed, together with tho whole of tho contents. Tho house was insured for £250, the furniture .for £150, and the piano for £50 in tho New Zealand office, but Mr Bootten estimates his loa at £200 above tho amount? of tho insurance. A small firo was left burning in one of tho rooms occupied by ono of the inmates, and shortly before 9 p.m. one of tho children observed flamei coining through tho "oeiliii", and at once gave the alarm. A stiff gale was blowing . at tho time, and practically nothing conld be saved, Mv Bnotlon having actually to borrow some, clothes with which to eomo into Port Chalmers to report tho matter. It is believed that tho firo was caused by a" spark beinpr blown amongst 6omc inflammable material under Hie eaves or eome birds' nests in tho spouting.
