THE D.J.C. MEETING. Tile Dunedin Jockey Club's summer meeting will commence to-morrow (Boxing Day), ami there is every prospect oi some excellent sport being provided by'the day's card. Some oi the races bear a very open aspect, and whatever wins the principal event of the day is likely to put up a track record before thei judge hoists the winning number. There is not. much to choose between the trio at' the head of tho handicaps, and tlfose who follow them 011 the list have chances that cannot ho ignored, but if a light-weight is to prevail it may he that Notus will he the one. PADMERSTON N., December 21 Tliere was a largo attendance of spectators on tho tracks this morning to watch the final gallops. Achilles and Marguerite galloped six furlongs 011 the plough. The maro received a start of several lengths, but was caught at the top of. the straight, where Maui picked tho pair lip, Achilles finishing in front, and covering the distance in linin IGse'c. The gallop will earn Achilles a lot of support tor the Palmerston North Stakes. Munjeet ran live furlongs outside of the course proper in lmin Gsec. Submarine, Signalmlfn, and Savoury were associated over seven furlongs, which they negotiated in lmin Msec, Submarine easily heating tho other two. WAIKOCAITI RACES. A London cablegram -states that Dawson (the billiardist), conceding '1000 in 18,000, beat Weiss (Australian champion) by 2750. An Auckland telegram states that Cambrian was scratched for the Auckland Cup on Saturday, Kona was scratched for all engagements at the summer meeting, and Zimmerman for the Cup at 7.45 yesterday morning.
