A London cablegram announces the death oi Mr T. D, Bolton, aged 65 years, who has represented Xorth-East Derbyshire in the House of Commons since ISSG.
The lfou. G. M'Lean, whose health for some time past has caused his many friends some anxiety, underwent an operation yesterday, fiom which ho is, wo are pleased to learn, making .a hopeful recovery.
Advice has been recoived from London that Mr J. L. Past-more, jun., has passed the teachers' certificate of tho Trinity College, London, llr Passmore is a pupil of Mr W, Paget Gale.
Constable Callanan, who has been stationed in Dunedin for the past 18 months, and who baa latterly been doing temporary duty at Chrislchui'ch Exhibition, has been Transferred to Invercargill. lie leave 3 for tho south l"-day.
Word has been received (says the Bruce Herald) that Mr William Tullocli, of Glenoro, who left a few weeks ago on a holiday trip to Australia, died in Victoria on Friday last. The deceased was an old and respected resident of Glenore for many years, and leaves a wife and seven of a family to mourn their 10.:'3.
On Wechiescby evening last several of (he leading townspeople of Alexandra assembled to hid farewell to Sergeant Dale. Mr Geo. Spencer. who occupied the chair, said that while the general public regTptted that Serjeant Dale was leaving, 'they were very pleased to hear ot Ilia well-deserved promotion. During his five years' stay in Alexandra. the order in the town had" been nil te could.bo desired, and ho had discharged Ins dr.ties k police officer in cliaigc of the towa' in a maimer -that had been, satisfactory to all. Jlr Spencer concluded by wishing Mr And Mrs Dale every prosperity, and handed to Mr Dale a purse for his wife, with tho contents of which the citizens desired her to purchase a memento that would servo to remind her of the friends left behind in Alexandra. Several others present also spoke and referred to tho interest the sergeant had taken in the different institutions of the town, particularly the fire brigade and the brass bund. .Mr William Tulloch. of Glenore, whose death i;i Victoria was recorded in our issue of Saturday la.st, was born in tho Orkr.cy Islands in J832, and came to Olago by the ship "i'liice Bells in 1658. Alter working for some time at the Taicri, lie removed to Tolsomairiro, and subsequently started a- iisliing station at Stewart's Island. A?, however, this did not prove successful, Mr Tulloch returned to Olago to take purt in the Gabriel's Gully gold rush. After varying luck at (tilteient diggings, ho settled at Oleneie, where lie had resided ever since. , Mr Tulloch always took a great interest in gold dredging, and was tho promoter of tho Gold Bank dredge. He was a member of the Glenore School Committee for 35 years, and was chairman of that body for 30 years. He was one ol tho firs', members ol the district road board, and al one timo served au a volunteer in the Bruce Rifles. Mr Tulloch is survived by hi? widow and five son,. Three oi his family reside in Victoria, and Mr Tulloch was paying a visit to them at the time of hi 3 unexpected death.
