THE £14,000 PARK.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—lf Dunedin is so hard up for a park that the ratepayers are to be called upon to find £14,000 to purchase one, how .is it that the very fine and conveniently situated-area in the southern portion of the city, formerly known as the Oval, has been permitted to remain a quagmire for ovor 12 years? The Oval used to be ono of the moat, popular reserves in the city and a famous cricket, ground. If there be any. money to spare at all, this reserve should first he put in order. Thoso gentlemen who can afford the luxury of a,motor car should' themselves find a place to race upon. The Dunedin ratepayers have something else to do with their money.—l tun, etc.- , Ratepayer.
