On Tuesday the company also commenced clearing out tho old abandoned well known as Samuel's v o. 3. This well struck oil, but in those *iys the water difficulty couM not bo overcome. Mr Fair has sipik 12ft preparatory to drilling and sand pumping lhc bore to clear it. To-day pure oil commenced to bubble up into the shaft, and the pressure gradually increased. The oil was ladled out in buckets. The success of this bore is already assured, as (he same system will bo used to shut off water as in the Moturoa bore. It i« expeclod to take only six weeks to clear and case this bore. • The Moturoa well is stronger than ever, oil oozing from every joint in the casing.
