TRAMWAY FARES.
TO THR IIIITOB. Sm.—A slight error ap_pea.ra in my lett-er in to-day's issue through the word " Cavcrs'nam" being omitted in the sentence, which should read: "Taking tho long route from the Post Office, via Cavgill road an dtho Waterloo Hotel to Caversham, 2d is the faro chaTgod." To-day I made a rough survey of the tramline from tho Waterloo Hotel to the Cavereham terminus, and found it to bo about t.ho same length as it is to Messrs Shicl's brickworks, situated on tho Forbury or St Clair road. My contention is that it isn't- worth an extra penny to St, Clair as against the 2d charged from town to Caversham. It is not t.lw residents who have to bo considered altogether, but many of tho citizens who feel inclined to have a run out to t.ho beach on a fine evening, a Saturday, or a Sunday afternoon have to be thought of. Sixpence return faro from tho Post Office to St. Clair seems reasonable enough when the distance or mileage is taken into account, but it won't "catch on."—l am, etc.,, August 11. V.'akdeeoo.
