. o- ' (From Ooh Own- Cokeespokdkkt.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 20, A representative meeting of members of the railway service was hold last evening in connection with the proposed national memorial to the memory of the late Premier. On the motion of Mr Whitcombe, district I rathe manager, it was unanimously decided to heartily co-operate in the proposal of the general manager to institute a fund in the railway service, and a strong working committee was appointed to arrange details. It was manifest that tho proposal was very popular in all ranks of the service. The law ••ovorning local bodies' elections must have been slung together when the legislators of this fair land were in a hurry to gel away to tea or to play golf. A*t anyrate, J here is one most glaring omission ill its provisions. According to evidence heard during the hearing of an election petition this morning, it was stated that there is nothing to chock double voting. "A man may vote in half a dozen different places, and we should have no check on him in the ordinary course." said Mr G. W. Iluluie. He added that the matter had been brought before the Municipal Association with a view to securing a remedy.
