TAIERI BOWLING CLUB.

The annual meeting of tbo Taicri Club was held in the Town Hall, Mosgiel, last evening.' Thu cnair was occupied by Mr J. Drydqn (vice-president), Mr L. Finder being unavoidably absent; there was a fair attendance of members.

The report and balance sheet were read. The latter showed a slight increaso on tho expenditure side, owing mainly to many improvements made to the club's property'. ftlr \Y. Allan, speaking of tho report and balanco sheet, said he thought members would agreo with him that tho club jvas in a satisfactory condition. They had had lo practically re-lay tho groan, but so far as ho conkl see there was every indication that Tjiieri would soon be in a position to provide bowlers with a green equal to any in Otago. . Mr Allan also mentioned the matter of subscription lo tho Howling Association, and was strongly of opinion that some steps should bo taken in the direction of removing tho heavy tav on small clubs.

It was decided io hold over the adoption of tlio report till-a later stage, and the election of officers was (hen proceeded with, Mr Dryden remarking that he Ihoiigllt the meeting might well deyitu't from the usual cuslom of (lie vice-presi-dent- assuming the presidency of the club. ITo thought tlint us a reward for services rendered the meeting could not do better than confer the honour on Mr Joseph Allan. The members were, however, unanimous in impressing upon Mr. Dryden their desire .hat lie should fill the position, and lie was elected. The other officers elected were:—Yicr-presiuent, Mr Joseph 'Allan; secretory, Mr J. A. M'Kinnon; Match Committee, Mr J. Dryden; preen Committee—Messrs \V. Christie, D. 1.. Christie, and J. Allan; General Commilteo --Messrs W. A. Titrnlmll, James Camphell. and D. Stevenson; delegates io N.Z.T?.A•—Slussrs W. Allan and J, A. M'Kinnon.

The (pies!ion of the lio-l moans of liquidating the debt of the club was then gone into. The Chairman said several suggestions had boon Ihrov/n on!. Either the subscription would have lo be raised or a bazaar held.—Mr M'Kinnon had given the matter some cousiderr.tion, and was of opinion that some .".clion should he taken to wipe oil' the tlebl. The debt had been hanging on quite long enough. llu thought a bazaar should be held. Them was. he knew, a considerable amount cf work attached to the working up of a bazaar, but. seeing that the howling cltdi was practically (he only resort for those in the district who had leisure, thoro was every probability that, the public of tlio district" would heartily supiwt tlio club, lie then moved —" That a bazaar be held with tlio object of clearing oft Ihe club's indebtedness.''—Seconded by Mr J. Camp-hell.-Mr If., lnelis thought members should make an endeavour to clear oIF tie) debt without calling 1 an outsiders to pav for the amusement of members.--M? M'Kinnon said that he hardlv thought the bull; of the members were in a position In bind themselves, to clear oil' the debt. - The motion was carried. - Tiie General Committee (with power lo add lo its number) was empowered lo act in conncction with the arranging of the bazaar.

A motion liv Mr W. M'f.eod. seconded li.v Mr 'I'. Mackie, tlett in future member's =i:nsoription lip 30s was lost. Mr M'Kinnon moved---" That a levy of 5s per member lie struck to enable' tlif club In urocr.ro a now roller."— Seconded by Mr 1). Christie.- -There was a deal of clisCHssio.il on the morion. several members speakim: a<rainst. it. and ultimately a motion by Mr \V. Allan ••"That tho Green Committee lie instructed lo purchase a. new roller and dispose of ilie old one"—was carried.

Regarding tile fee to the N.Z.D.A., Mr Inglis moved in tlio direction of instructin if tho delegates to support a nioro eqniiable adjustment on a membership scale, the general impression being that clubs with limited memberships were too highly rated. ' '

Opinion was expressed that the executive of the N.Z.B.A. had formulated a programme for the Exhibition tournament which would preclude a ureal number of tirst-clas-i players from taking part. Too much time would be taken up. and somo system should be devised whereby tlio championships could be threshed out in six days. Mr W. Allan being etnpbatio in the opinion that had Mr Ham's (Invercarffill) two-life system been adopted it would have met with more appreciation than tlio present proposal of the association.—Mr Carsweli had always been in favour of tho sudden death system of playing the championship, but ho supposed bowling had to iidvance with the times, and ho, like others, had to go with the tide.—Mr M'Kinnon said the executive deserved every credit for its work-. Of course, there would lie many bowlers who would bo unablo to spare a fortnight, but thali.wonld happen under any circumstances.—Mr Allan hud no desire to underrate the work of the executive. It was tlw excluding of a great many players that he objected to. Tlio report and balance sheet were then adopted, and tho Chairman presented Mr I). Stevenson with the club's single-handed chainpipnship trophy, tho recipient being loudly applauded. The meeting decided, on the motion o£ Mr W. Allan, seconded bv Mr 11. Miller. to adopt the committee's recommendation " that all unplayed tie held over from last season be abandoned." Votes of tlianl;s to the retiring ofbesra concluded tho meeting..
