The Council assembled at 3 p.m.

THE LATE MR SEDDON. The Hon. A. PITT at once moved", .with leave of the Council, and without, nolice- " That, the Council desires to plare on record its high sense of the devoted and distinguished services rendered to New Zealand and to the Emnire by the late Prime Minister. Richard John Seddon, P.C., and of the loss tho colony has sustained bv his death, and respectfully tenders to Mrs Seddon and her family an assurance of its sincere svninathy with them in their bereavement." Their hearts to-day were, he said, filled with sorrow that so commanding a leader and -representative fururc had passed away in the late Premier after a strenuous life, passed from his early youth to the time of his death in the service of the public. He liad gone to his vest more distinguished and honoured than any other man who lmd ever lived in the colonv. From bis first entrance into public life he had demonstrated that he was o mm who was bound to succeed. The motion was carried in silence, members standing. DECEASED LEGISLATORS. The Hon. A. PITT then moved, without notice—" That this Council desires to place on record its high sense of faithful and distinguished services rendered lo New Zealand by tho late Hon. Courtney William Aylmor Thomas Kenny, M.L.C.. by tho late Hon. David Pinkorton, M.L.C., and by the late Mr Job Vile, formerly n member of the House of Representatives, and of the serious loss the colony Ims sustained by their deaths, and respectfully tenders to thoi- relatives the assurance of its', sincere sympathy with them in their bereavement." The mover referred in "iilogistic terms to the services of the 'two late members nf Iho Council, anil of Mr Vile, who died on the dav of the last, general election. The Hon. Mr RAILLIE seconded tills motion, and al«o said a few words in praise of the deceased gentlemen. The motion was carried. THE ADDRKSS-IN-REPLY. The Hon. W. C. OARNOROSB gave notice to move tho Addross-in-Beuly tomorrow. On tho motion of the Hon. A. PITT, the Council then adjourned (at 3.301 until 2.30 next day as a mark of respect to the late Prime Minister, Legislative Councillors, and Mr Vile.
