HOLIDAY-MAKING

TO THE EDITOR. Sir—The hus-tlo and hustle at (lie Duncdiu UaiUvay Station on Good Friday Kvo were us considerable as I have ever pwi). Nearly everyone was flying abut, as if his very life depended' on geiting to tlio ticket and baggage or parcel ofßce3 first. The majority of travellers by rail leave everything to the last- minute. This gives the officials in a cratnpcd-up space anything but fair play to carry out their duties. Next Easter we will see what, improvement lias been made at tho long-talked-of new station by way of extra facilities for the despatch of business. From what I eouldpsee on Thursday night the bicycle business was one of the worst the department had to cope with. Many of the trains, both going out and coming into the station, • contained 15 carriages, with two powerful engines and tw brake or luggage vans. The second class carriages are greatly supplanting the first class ones, as many people find there is but very little difference between them—the greatest difference being in that, of SO per cent, in fares. People talk about hard times, dear potatoes, and dear fish. They have only to look at tho large number of passengers travelling by rail, tram, and steamer, let alone those who travel by buggy, and those who sport thoir motor cars, motor bicycles, and the old-fashioned bicycles, to fee that thero is still "corn" in the land of the Seddonitas, This will be further verified next week through the amount of grist put through tho totalisator twills throughout the colony. The butcher and baker and the small tradesmen will have the pleasure of fathering up tlio chaff after the holidavs.—l am, etc.,, April- W. ' Alban*.
