WELLINGTON CENTRAL MISSION BAND.
The Wellington Central Minion Brass Band, which includes in its ranks 34 performers, gave nn open-air concert in (he Hcspital grounds on Saturday afternoon, a. collection beiny nmdc in aid of 1 the Hospital fund. THo band, which was listened to by a fairly large number of visitors, played some few selections in the southern part of the grounds, and afcrwards proceeded to the other side of the Hospital, in order that all the nat.ienls might participate in listening to the music. The playing of the band, which is under the baton" of Mr H. Baker, was of a moot creditable character, and was well worth hearing. The programme-, which was fairly lengthy, included the marches "The Vanquished," "Rule Britannia," "New Colonial," the anthems "To Thee, 0 Lord" and "Hosanna in the Highest," "The Old Folks at Home." and (he descriptive piece "The Tempest." Before the band left the grounds.the meml>eis composing _it wore served with tea in the officers' dining room. On Sunday the band assisted at the Methodist-' Central Mission special Easier services held in the (Jarrison Hall. In the afternoon, when there was a largo.congregation, it contributed three excellent. Folections, a.iul also a quartet. The Rev. W. A. Sinclair presided at this meeting, and Sir J. H. Stephens (evangelist), in addition to giving an address also sang a solo. In the evening there was an exceedingly large gathering, a number of people failing to nam admission. The band was present, and besides leading the singing, contributed a number of selections before the service and one during the offertory. A number of the bandsmen alfo gave a part song entitled "Old Jordan's waves." Jfr Sinclair presided, and delivered an interesting address, basing his remarks on the text "The people stood beholding," doaling with the three attitudes assumed by people of the present day in regard to Cbist-Ml.ipathy. apathy, and sympathy.
To-day the Methodist Central Mission Choir'will hold their picnic at Anderson's Bay, and tho band will be present and lend assistance. In the evening a concert will bo given in the Garrison Hall, the programme including, in addition to the items by the band, a.number of glees, solos, and recitations by the member*.
