THE RISING IN NATAL.

(Received March 18, at 4.45 p.m.) At Pietermaritzburg Mr Watt, Minister of Defenco for Natal, in welcoming the return of the Militia to Maritzburg, said the native insurrection had been nipped in the bud. Several powerful tribes had planned a general rising, but the prematura outbreak at Richmond enabled the Government to deal with the disaffection in detail. LONDON, March 16. (Received March 17, at 8.23 a.m.) Mr John Ward (Labour member for Stoke-on-Trent) inquired as to the confiscation of the land of Kaffir tribes, and also a.s to the allegation that arbitrary procedure was meant to compel them 'to sell their labour cheap.
Mr' Winston Churchill promised an inquiry. He reminded Mr Ward that the situation in Natal had not ceased to be one of emergency to the whole white population. He added that the colony was in the enjoyment of complete responsible selfgovernment.
