MORNINGTON SCHOOL FLOWER SHOW.

On Saturday afternoon at the Mornington School Gymnasium a flower and vegetable show was very successfully hcM in connection with the Mornington Public School. The show wa.s the first of the kind to be held in connection with tho school, hut will probably be by no means the last, its object being to interest the children of the district, as well as their parents in flowers and gardening and Nature-study generally, and incidentally -to raise funds for the building of a fives court and for material for the Girls' Tennis and Rounders Club. The display was a really excellent one, especially so in respect to the vegetables, and the effort made by those interested was all the more creditable considering the short notice given to competitors. Mr Davidson (head master), Mr Mathews (first assistant), and other members of the school staff ably controlled arrangements, and had spared no pains in making the show a success, and the Rev. W. Scorgio (chairman of the committee) was present to declare the show open. The flower exhibits were judged by Mr J. Ronnie, of Port Chalmers, while Mr A. Meiklejohn judged the vegetables, and Mr T. Lambourne the handwork. The management expresses its thanks to Mr Peterson for contribution of a fine box of Carnations, to Mr Scidelin, who sent dahlias, to Mr M'lntyre for palms, to Miss A. M'lntyre for sending a beautiful shower bouquet," to Mr LcCren and Mr Scidelin for valuable assistance, as well as to the many parents who' made donations of various kinds. Afternoon tea was looked after by tho lady, teachers and the girls of the Sixth Standard, a lovely stall was presided over by Miss Slater and girls from the same standard, while Standard VI girle, headed by Miss D. M'lntyre, took charge of the flower stall. The officers of the Cadet company had charge of the doors. The attendance during tho afternoon was quite up to expectations.
