SILVER WEDDING AT ST. LEONARDS.

Mr and- Mrs Isaac Stevenson -celebrated their silver' wedding on March 2 ..with a gay function at their beautiful home, "Pa Waitaha." There were upwards of 150 guests present, and, as showing the esteem with which the happy couple are regarded, it may be mentioned that friends from Wellington, Chri6tchurch, Queenstown, and other distant places had made the journey on purpose to be present at the celebrations. The festivities included dancing, singing, and recitations, whilst a number of the guests renewed old acquaintanceships around the card tables. A mmipluous supper was laid out in a large marquee, which was gaily decorated for the occasion. The health of the couple was proposed in felicitous terms by Mr J. M'Kay, who referred to the fact that Mi Stevenson and himself landed in Dunedin 31 years ago from Batlarat, and the gliding years had but served to cement the friendship of their early youth. Having known Mr Stevenson since his boyhood, he was in a position to say that there waß no ono more deserving of their esteem than the gentleman whose silver wedding they were celebrating, and he trusted that health, happiness, and prosperity would be their portion for very many years. Mr James Gi&y followed with, a hippy speech, and said that, having been a schoolmate of Mrs Stevenson's, he derived more than ordinary pleasure at bring present on such a happy occasion. Like her esteemed husband, her path through life had beta marled with

troops of friends, by whom she was held in the highest esteem. The toast was drunk with musical honours, Mr Stevenson subsequently responding in feeling terms. The gifts were both numerous and handsome, forming quite an attraction in their glittering array. The dance music was supplied by Messrs Yates and Beath, and left nothing to bo desired, consequently dancing was kept up with spirit until 2.30 a.m., special train arrangements having been made to convey the guests homewards!
