DUNEDIN HARRIERS.

The annual meeting of the Dunedin Harriers Club was held at the Palace lea Rooms last night. The President (Mr A. Lew Smith) was in the chair, and there was a large attendance of membcre. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report (which lias been published in the Otsgo Daily Times) and balance sheet, said it was a long time since as a youth be bade farewell to similar clubs with which he was then associated. _ He now returned to the familiar association with pleasure. He was bred and born in the sporting county of Yorkshire. The hairicrs of his youth had somewhat different rules from those now followed in Dunedin. Ho did not think the athletic enthusiasm was overdone, except in times of great and special excitement, such a.s had arisen over the recent football victories. Outdoor exercises conduced to physical and moral health, and promoted good social feeling. These remarks applied to the Dunedin Harriers. The sport was clean and pure in every possible way. This was the pioneer club of the colony, although it bad enly been established seven years. There were now 10 live clubs in Dunedin, 'with nearly 400 members—(applause).—and "the movement was now spreading all over the oniony. They wished these kindred clubs every' success.—("Hear, hear.") The winning of the Inter-elub Teams Championship by fhe club was a very meritorious performance. He hoped the succors of the past, would be repeated and increased in the future. He and Mrs Lee Smith would always he glad to entertain the Harriers, as they had been able to do_in (lie past.— (Applause.) They had all his good wishes, and he sliould do everything in bis power to promote the interests of the club.—(Renewed applause.) lie was glad to see they had. a credit balance, and he was pleased to give them a couple of guineas to begin with.-(Applause.)

Mr R. W. Kn'ckell seconded flic motion. Mr V. A. Webb congratulated the club on it; success of the year—success above (he standard of previous years.—(Applause.) The thanks of the club were due to the treasurer, Mr W. M. Shand.—("Hear, hear.") The motion was agreed to.

The election of officers for the year resulted as follows:—President, Mr A, Lee Smith: vice-pvesideiils-Dr V. Stanley Batchelor, Messrs J. Glendining, J. A. Johnstone, and Magnus W. Johnson; captain. Mr D. Melville; deputy-captain, Mr Frank Mace; lion, treasurer, Mr A, Cannon; hon. secretary. Mr A. K. Bonnin ; lion, handieappcr, Mr A. T. Murray; official timekeeper. Mr H. G. Burk: delegates to Otago Centre. N.Z.A.A.A., Messrs R. W. Brickell and D. Melville: General Committee-Messrs W. M. Shand. P. J. Israel, R. C. Moore. A. J. Foley, P. S. P.omeril, and H..' W. Dowlands: hon, auditors, Messrs R-. C. Moore and F. A. Webb.

Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs J. R. Callan and H. C. Murray. A telegram of congratulation was received from Mr A. G. Harris, an old member now resident in Christohurch. The ssoretarv stated his. regret that tho names of Messrs J. B. Callan and ,T. T. Prain had been inadvertently omitted from the report. Tho following motions were passed, pursuant to notice given :—" That Rule B be amended by substituting the words 'The Dunwlin Savings Bank,' in lieu of \h" word' 'The National Bank of New Zealand (Limited).'" "That Rule 12 be amended to read with the following addition: "No member shall bo allowed to compete in club races unless ill club colours,'" "Thatlife members may be elected at a general meeting, and shall be-elected only from those persons to whom the club desires to show some appreciation of their past services (provided that no person shall be proposed for election except on the recommendation of the committee): they shall be entitled to all the privileges of active members, including election lo office, without being railed on for any subscription." "That- the club have only one handicappav instead of two as at present."
